MILWAUKEE --- Family and
friends of Brandon Johnson rallied at the Milwaukee Mental Health Complex
Saturday to raise awareness about police misconduct.
Johnson died of a broken neck
at he health facility in October. Family claims Johnson's death was a result of
police misconduct.
The crowd that gathered was
small, but their voice and message was that Johnson's family wants someone held
accountable for his death.
"My son didn't deserve
none of this, he was tortured, my son was tortured," Alicia Johnson,
Brandon Johnson's mother said.
It's still unclear how
Johnson's his neck was actually broken and if his plea for aid was ignored by
the health complex staff.
"Whether if he fell and
broke his neck on his own or if someone broke his neck, he begged and he cried
for days for someone to take him to seek help," Kamesha Taylor, Brandon's
aunt said.
"These are the people that
are supposed to be protecting us and watching over us," Tory Lowe, a
supporter of the family declared at the rally.
While the family awaits a
ruling on whether there was negligence on the part of the complex and if any
charges will be filed, they say they won't stop fighting for Brandon.
Family has been told that
Brandon's complaints of being unable to walk were attributed to his mental
illness and weren't taken seriously. They later found out he was paralyzed
inhibiting his movement.
"He died a horrible
death," Taylor added.
"They killed my son, they
lied to me and I just want justice to be served," Alicia Johnson said.
Family says they don't want
this to happen to anyone else and would like to see negligent homicide charges
filed.
